Starting September 27, 2026, a new rule takes effect across the European Union that brings a fresh obligation for all online stores selling electronic goods. This isn’t just about physical or in-person sales. The new requirement applies to every e-commerce site, with a standardized notice and a specific way the guarantee information must be shown, based on the EU Directive.
When you sell electronic goods, your process changes. Here’s what the new regulation says and what you need to show on your product pages.
What the new regulation says
EU Regulation 2025/1960 sets out the rules for the mandatory display and content of the harmonized legal guarantee notice and the special “GARAN” label for electronic goods:
- The mandatory notice for the legal guarantee of conformity,
- The special harmonized “GARAN” label for the digital guarantee of electronic goods.
The new rules affect all product listings and your electronic product pages. This means you’ll need to update your product catalog and add the required information with clear, visible details.
The mandatory notice for the legal guarantee
Every product that falls under the rule must show the harmonized legal guarantee notice for conformity, right where the customer can see it before buying. In practice, this usually means near the product description.
The notice must say that every product sold in the European Union comes with a minimum 2-year legal guarantee, regardless of any commercial warranty offered by the seller. The seller can also mention any additional benefits, but these don’t replace the legal guarantee or limit its duration. If you offer an extra warranty, make sure it’s clearly described, with terms and conditions, so buyers know what’s included.
How to show it on your product pages
There’s no shortcut or workaround for any e-shop. On every product page that falls under the regulation, the notice must appear before the customer adds the product to their cart. You may need to make technical changes to your platform:
- Display the mandatory guarantee notice.
- Add a special field for the harmonized “GARAN” label in the product details. The label doesn’t need to be shown for all products.
- Add a QR code that links to the “Your Guarantee” page, where the customer can find detailed information about their rights.
- Place the notice in a visible spot on the product page, near the product description.
In other words, you can’t just add a generic note somewhere on your site. The information must be clearly visible on each relevant product page, where the customer will see it before buying. Whether you use a custom system or a ready-made platform, you’ll need to make sure your product pages are compliant.
The “GARAN” label
Along with the mandatory notice, the regulation introduces the harmonized “GARAN” label. This label is used for digital guarantees for electronic goods, so buyers can easily recognize, compare and use their rights. It’s a visual, standardized element that helps buyers quickly find out what applies to their purchase. The label is optional, but it may become a required element for some types of information in the future.
What you need to do by September 27
The process is straightforward and doesn’t require much. By September 27, 2026, every product page must include the harmonized guarantee notice, both in text and in a visible spot on the product page.
